11x14
pen and ink
untitled
This is a cooperative drawing!  A group of artists friends of mine get together once a week. We draw, talk and eat.  Every now and then we do a group project.  This was done by 9 different artists.  We each got a tile or two and did what is known as a Zentangle. http://www.zentangle.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=99
Or to me, a doodle.  Then they were rearranged in the right order to create our picture.  There is a method to this process you can read about that gives the whole a cohesiveness from it's parts. It was a lot of fun and gave us all some great creative ideas!

Untitled

Untitled
Colored Pencil
18x24

My latest project I started in February! Note to self 18 x 24 is way too big for a colored pencil painting. But I rarely revue my notes. Top left is the original picture. It's the bustle of a child's Native American Regalia. I wanted this to be a little more abstract of details. Fat chance but we will see. You'll also notice I've changed the color scheme to be more vibrant. The Top right shows the undertones. Next blocking in of colors. Last a close up.

MIA/POW reworked

So the background on this picture always bothered me. It wasn't what I envisioned and looked washed out. Also it didn't give it the right feel.  The day I took the picture was a sweltering hot day in Eureka Springs Arkansas. I wanted that hot day and subject matter to merge better. Since I didn't have my Icarus board http://icarusart.net/ at the time I thought I could get the feel I wanted using it to get a good rich background this picture deserved. It took several tries with colors to get the right combinations but I think I got it. Which do you like better and why?

Ponca Boy

Ponca Boy
9x12 Colored Pencil

Yes, I'm always happy when I get the eyes in.  I little more hair helped also. Now the feathers and the background. Whenever I photograph my paintings the color is just a little off. This one seems to a much better representation of the real think. Which means photography at early dusk with no flash and not light on in the room. Who would have thought.  At this point I'm already thinking about the next picture so I need to keep my focus just a little longer.

Well it's been almost 1 month since I was able to post.  Christmas found me unable to do any drawing. Just getting some hair in.  It's looking a little weird but going well. I love the ear.
